WHO ARE THE PUERI CANTORES?

Pueri Cantores of Holy Family

Who are the Pueri Cantores?  Pueri Cantores in Latin literally translates to “boy singers”.  In fact, the Pueri Cantores of Holy Family is the only boys choir in the Catholic Church in Michigan that we are aware of.  The 25 members of Pueri Cantores under the direction of their founder and choirmaster Mr. Michael Bradley, are ages 6 to 13.  The main choir consists of 20 Sopranos, Mezzo Sopranos and Altos.  The Junior Pueri Cantores consists of 6 probationers.

All members of the Pueri Cantores go through the probation program for a period of at least 6 months.  While in that program, they complete the requirements for the first part of the Light Blue Ribbon which is part of an awards program for their accomplishments in music theory.  The main choir of Pueri Cantores is responsible for all masses, concerts and touring done on behalf of the Pueri Cantores of Holy Family.

Summer 2002, the Pueri Cantores of Holy Family participated in the Festival of Choirs in Toronto where they were part of the opening concert.  They also performed a short program at the Toronto Science Center and sang Mass at the Basilica of St. Paul in Toronto.  The Pueri Cantores of Holy Family, which is part of the Religious Education Department, is affiliated with Pueri Cantores International, Pueri Cantores America and the Royal School of Church Music.
